The 10 most famous biblical figures had to do a lot to become the most famous with the wide array of characters you will find in this religious book and all the noteworthy events contained inside. If you believe in the Bible then these figures are an integral part of your faith. If you do not then you can learn a lot about a faith by learning who they make famous.
Moses
Moses is famous because the Bible tells how he spoke with God. This alone is unique. But he may be best known for how he led the Hebrew people out of Egypt to freedom.
David
David rose to fame in the well known tale of David and Goliath. In this story, David kills the giant Goliath using only his sling. He also became one of the last kings of the United Monarchy.
Solomon
The name Solomon is synonymous with wisdom because of the exploits of this legendary figure. Perhaps his most famous story is one wherein he decided to cut a baby in half when two women claimed to be the child’s mother. When the real mother would rather give up the child than see it harmed, Solomon knew she was the true mother.
Nebuchadnezzar
Nebuchadnezzar in the Bible was a Babylonian king. He was the one who destroyed the First Temple in Jerusalem. Thus began the Babylonian Captivity.
Cyrus
Cyrus was the king of Persia. It was he who defeated the Babylonian kingdom and managed to release the Jewish people to go back to their homeland. An interesting point is that Cyrus was not Jewish.
Herod The Great
Herod the Great was king of Judea. He completed the Second Temple and brought greater prosperity to the land although he may be better known for his later evil acts. Before he died it is said that he ordered that all infants in Bethlehem be killed.
Herod Antipas
Herod Antipas was the son of Herod the Great and was the ruler of Galilee. He may have had an involvement in the trial of Jesus. The Bible says that his daughter asked for the head of John the Baptist.
Pontius Pilate
The name Pontius Pilate is infamous because of the part he played in the execution of Jesus. He was the Roman governor of Judea but this is eternally overshadowed by his efforts to put Jesus on trial. In the end, he was forced into exile and killed himself.
Paul
Paul, also known as Saul, is known for being a man who turned from his immoral ways to become a man who embodied Christian principles. He was eventually executed in Rome.
Jesus
Jesus is thought by Christians to be the resurrected Savior. Not all believe he was the Messiah but many believe he played an important role nonetheless.
